Charting, in the general sense, refers to recording pitches thrown in a game. There are varying levels of details, but this can include the pitch type, location in the strike zone, location of the ball in the field – all of these are charted against the player(s) these relate to. Often when watching college and/or international softball you will see a multitude of clipboards in a dugout and each of them is usually recording a different aspect of the game.
